Vikram, born Kennedy John in April 1966 in Madras (now Chennai), India, came from a family with deep ties to the arts. His father and cousin were actors, while his uncle was a director. Despite his family's artistic background, his father initially opposed his son's desire to pursue a career in the performing arts.

Undeterred, Vikram joined his school's drama group and eventually made his debut in a stage production of "The Imaginary Invalid." After graduating from the prestigious Montfort School, he enrolled in a local college to study English literature, appeasing his family's concerns.

Film Debut and Early Career

Vikram began his film career in 1990 with the romantic film "En Kadhal Kanmani." Despite promising performances in subsequent projects, his career did not gain traction until 1997, when he starred in Bala's critically acclaimed "Sethu." This physically and emotionally demanding role transformed Vikram's career, earning him his first award and critical recognition.
