Biography of Viktor Hrabovsky

Viktor Hrabovsky is a Ukrainian poet, translator, literary scholar, literary critic, and journalist. He was born on November 7, 1942, in the village of Bagovitsa, Kamenets-Podolsky district, Khmelnytsky region, Ukraine.

Education and Journalism Career
Hrabovsky studied at the Slavic Department of the Philological Faculty of Lviv University. He began his career in journalism in 1967. In the early 1980s, he served as the head of the criticism department, and from 1985 to 1990, he worked in the publicist department of the newspaper "Literaturna Ukraina." He also held positions as deputy editor-in-chief in the editorial offices of "Narodna Hazeta," "Samostiyna Ukraina," "Slovo Prosvity," and as the editor-in-chief of the publishing house of the Kiev National Economic University. He is currently the acting editor-in-chief of "Literaturna Ukraina."

Achievements and Contributions
On April 11, 2007, Hrabovsky was awarded the title of "Honored Artist of Ukraine" for his significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian journalism, active defense of freedom of speech, and many years of diligent work.

Hrabovsky's poems, translations, essays, and literary articles have been included in numerous collective anthologies for over thirty years. His works have been published in literary and art journals and newspapers in Ukraine. He is known for his interesting interpretation of "The Tale of Igor's Campaign" in modern Ukrainian language, in which he presented an original hypothesis about the author of this masterpiece of ancient Ukrainian poetry. Hrabovsky is also the editor and compiler of the unique two-volume edition of Vasyl Stus' poetry titled "That's How You Burn," published by the Prosvita publishing center in 2005.

Hrabovsky's work has been highly acclaimed by critics and readers alike. His contributions to Ukrainian literature have been recognized with awards such as the Vladimir Sosyura Prize and the Dmitry Nitchenko Prize. Journalist Vera Kuleva, in an article in the newspaper "Kreshchatyk" about the laureates of the Vladimir Sosyura Prize, described Hrabovsky as an erudite, passionate patriot of Ukraine, and a sincere and kind-hearted individual. She also highlighted the openness, directness, and immense love for the world, people, and his homeland that is evident in Hrabovsky's poetry.

Beyond his literary endeavors, Hrabovsky has also been involved in filmmaking, having contributed to the script of the Chernobyl film "Poryv" directed by Rollan Sergienko. He is also one of the initiators of the International Annual Action "Saved Planet," which has gained many supporters worldwide since its inception on April 26, 1998.
