Early Life and Education
Viktor Pynzenyk was born on April 15, 1954, in Smolgovitsa village, Zakarpattia region, Ukraine. In 1975, he graduated from the Lviv State University named after Ivan Franko with a degree in economics. He earned a postgraduate degree from Lviv University in 1979 and a doctoral degree from Moscow State University in 1989.
Academic Career
From 1975 to 1981, Pynzenyk worked as an assistant at Lviv State University. He held various positions, including senior researcher and professor, until 1991, when he became the Head of the Department of Economics and Management of the National Economy.
Parliamentary Career
In 1991, Pynzenyk was elected as a member of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine. He was re-elected three more times (1994, 1998, and 2002). During his parliamentary tenure, he served as First Deputy Chairman of the "Reforms" faction, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Reforms, and Minister of Finance.
Political Leadership
In 1997, Pynzenyk co-founded the Party of Reforms and Order (PRO). He has served as its Chairman since then. Under his leadership, PRO has advocated for economic reforms and integration into the European Union.
Governmental Positions
In 1992-1993, Pynzenyk served as Minister of Economy and Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine. From October 1994 to April 1997, he was the First Deputy Prime Minister responsible for economic reforms. He also held the positions of Chairman of the Council on Economic Reforms (1994-2000) and Chairman of the National Council on Statistics (1995-2000).
Other Activities
Pynzenyk is a member of the State Commission for Administrative Reform and an advisor to the President of Ukraine on economic policy. He has authored over 400 articles and books on economics and has been a vocal advocate for transparency and accountability in public finance.
Controversies
Pynzenyk has been linked to allegations of corruption, including rumors of involvement in the disappearance of compensation funds for Ukrainian laborers forced to work in Germany during World War II. He has denied any wrongdoing.
Business Interests
Pynzenyk is reportedly involved in business activities at the Zaporizhzhia Automobile Plant.
