Born in Sukhumi, Georgian SSR, Victor Danilovich Saneyev pursued higher education at the Georgian Institute of Subtropical Farming and the Tbilisi Institute of Physical Culture.
Olympic Triumphs
Saneyev made history as a three-time Olympic gold medalist in the triple jump. He claimed victories in Mexico City (1968), Munich (1972), and Montreal (1976). His impressive Olympic accolades also include a silver medal from the 1980 Moscow Games.

In a fiercely contested final, Saneyev witnessed Italian Giuseppe Gentile break his world record twice. However, Saneyev remained composed and responded with a magnificent leap of 17.23 meters, securing both the Olympic gold and a new world record. Brazilian Nelson Prudêncio later surpassed Saneyev's mark with a jump of 17.27 meters, but the Soviet athlete ultimately prevailed with a final leap of 17.39 meters.
Post-Competition Career
After retiring from competitive athletics at the age of 35, Saneyev served in the sports department of the Tbilisi "Dynamo" society. Following the dissolution of the USSR, he relocated to Australia, where he worked as a physical education teacher, pizza delivery driver, and ultimately a jumps coach at the New South Wales Institute of Sport.

Victor Danilovich Saneyev passed away on January 3, 2022, in Sydney, Australia. His exceptional athletic achievements and indomitable spirit continue to inspire generations of athletes and sports enthusiasts worldwide.
