Sons:Grigor Astsvatryan (b. 1966), Armen Astsvatryan (b. 1969)Vilena Armenovich Astsvatryan graduated from the Yerevan Medical Institute in 1956 and began his career at the city children's hospital. In 1958, he entered postgraduate studies at the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute named after Pirogov, where he subsequently became an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics for the Faculty of Advanced Medical Training at Yerevan Medical Institute.

Developed and applied vectorcardiographic research in the diagnosis of rheumatic fever in children (1960)
Studied the hereditary nature of periodic disease (1962)
Investigated the epidemiology, etiology, and treatment of inflammatory diseases of the biliary tract in children (1961-1971)
Described thalassemia, a severe hereditary blood disorder, in Armenia
Explored the role of endogenous humoral regulators in anemia associated with glomerulonephritis (1972)
Led the Republican Children's Pulmonology Center, conducting research on respiratory diseases in children (1971-1979)
Demonstrated the effectiveness of interferon in reducing respiratory infections in young children (1972-1974)
Investigated the functional state of the pancreas in rheumatic fever and the benefits of insulin therapy (1973)
Conducted cytochemical studies on pneumonia and bronchial asthma in children (1973)
Pioneered immunological research on bronchopulmonary diseases in children
Established the Republican Children's Center for the Study and Treatment of periodic disease
