Vito Wormgoor: Dutch Defender
Early Life and Youth CareerVito Wormgoor was born on November 16, 1988, in Leersum, Netherlands. He began playing football at the age of twelve for amateur club HDS, before moving to DOVO in 1999. Subsequently, he joined the Ajax youth academy.
Ajax Years and Controversy
Due to injuries to Ajax players, Wormgoor was included in the first-team squad for the 2007/08 season. However, he never made an appearance for the senior team. He did feature in defender Jaap Stam's farewell match, replacing the injured Jan-Arie van der Heijden.
In 2008, Wormgoor was found guilty of stealing 150 euros from teammate Edgar Manucharyan. As a result, Ajax terminated his contract. According to Wormgoor's agent, Louis Laros, Manucharyan had borrowed money from Wormgoor during a card game but failed to repay it on time. Wormgoor subsequently took the money from Manucharyan's bag himself.
Club Career
In September 2008, Wormgoor signed a two-year contract with FC Utrecht, despite interest from Feyenoord. He made his debut on September 14 in a 0-2 defeat to FC Groningen. In the 2008/09 season, he played 9 league games for Utrecht.
The following season, Wormgoor was loaned out to De Graafschap in the Dutch First Division. De Graafschap won the First Division title and earned promotion to the Eredivisie. Wormgoor returned to De Graafschap on a free transfer in the summer of 2010. He spent two seasons with the club, making 56 appearances and scoring one goal.
In March 2012, Wormgoor joined ADO Den Haag, taking the number 3 shirt. He made his debut in a 2-2 draw away to Vitesse on August 12, 2012.
International Career
Wormgoor represented the Netherlands U-21 team at the 2009 Toulon Tournament. The Netherlands finished fourth, losing 0-1 to Argentina in the third-place match. He made a total of 7 appearances for the U-21 side.

Vito Wormgoor has an older brother, Kelvin, and younger siblings Nando and Julia. Nando is also a footballer, currently playing for RKC Waalwijk as a defender.
