His first international match was against England on May 5, 1910, where Denmark won with a score of 2-1. His last match was against Finland on September 27, 1925, which ended in a 3-3 draw.

Nielsen had both team and individual achievements. He was a six-time champion of Denmark with KB Copenhagen, winning the title in 1913, 1914, 1917, 1918, 1922, and 1925.

On a personal level, Nielsen holds the national record for the most goals scored for the Danish national team, with 52 goals. His remarkable goal-scoring ability made him one of the most renowned Danish football players of his time.
