Portuguese Goalkeeper
António Jesus Alves is a retired Portuguese football goalkeeper. He represented the Portugal national team 29 times, making his debut on 6 April 1969 and earning his final cap on 11 July 1986.
Club Career
Alves spent his entire club career in Portugal. He won two Primeira Liga titles (1970 and 1974) and three Taça de Portugal titles (1971, 1973, and 1974) with Sporting CP. He also won the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in 1987 with Benfica.
International Career
Alves made 29 appearances for the Portugal national team between 1969 and 1986. He was part of the squad that finished third at the 1984 UEFA European Championship.
Accolades
In 1999, the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) ranked Alves 40th among the best goalkeepers in Europe of the 20th century.
