Early Life and EducationBorn on June 18, 1940, in Riga, Latvia, to a family of civil servants, Vizma Kalme embarked on her artistic journey at a young age. After completing her secondary education at the 1st Riga High School in 1964, she pursued her passion for the performing arts at the prestigious A.N. Ostrovsky Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music, and Film, graduating in 1965.
Theatrical Debut and Valmiera Success
Kalme made her theatrical debut in 1960, gracing the stage of the A. Upītis Drama Theatre in Alexei Arbuzov's play "Hello, Love!" Two years later, she joined the Valmiera Drama Theatre, initially as an actress, and later as the leader of the theatre company from 1991. Her exceptional talent and dedication to the craft left an indelible mark on the Latvian theatre scene.
Film Appearances
Despite her primarily theatrical focus, Kalme also enriched the realm of cinema with her memorable performances in several films produced by the Riga Film Studio. Her versatility shone through in both supporting and episodic roles, showcasing her range and adaptability.
