Vladimir Lvovich Entin: A Distinguished Jurist, Advocate, and Public Figure
Early Life and Education
Vladimir Lvovich Entin was born in 1950 and has dedicated his life to legal scholarship, advocacy, and public service. With two higher degrees and a PhD in law, he has made significant contributions to the field.
Academic and International Roles
For over a decade, Entin engaged in scientific research at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He served as the representative of the Russian Intellectual Property Agency in France, the United Kingdom, and the Benelux countries from 1992 to 1994. As the first secretary of the Russian Permanent Delegation to UNESCO in Paris, he also taught at Sorbonne University.
Legislative Contributions
Entin has played a pivotal role in Russia's legislative development, being one of the authors of several key laws, including the "Law on the Press and Other Mass Media," "Law on Mass Media," and "Law on Archives and Archival Affairs." He also participated in the drafting of the Russian "Law on Copyright and Related Rights."
Advocate and Legal Expert
Since 1998, Entin has been an advocate with the Moscow Bar Association "Klishin and Partners." He specializes in intellectual property protection, media law, reputation defense, and the protection of property interests before the European Court of Human Rights.
Nonprofit and Academic Activities
In 1999, Entin became the director of the Non-Commercial Foundation "Center for Legal Protection of Intellectual Property." He also holds academic positions as an associate professor at the Faculty of Journalism, Moscow State University; associate professor at the Department of Advocacy, MGIMO University; and senior researcher at the Center for Civilist Studies, Institute of State and Law, RAS.
International Recognition and Affiliations
Entin's expertise extends beyond Russia. He is a corresponding member of the International Academy of Comparative Law (France, 2003), a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Supreme Arbitration Court of Russia, and an expert for UNESCO on copyright and media law. He is also a permanent columnist for the media journals "Profession - Journalist" and "Sreda."
