Early Life and Career

Born on April 29, 1940, in Belarus, Vladimir Goncharik graduated from the Belarusian State Institute of National Economy in 1961. In 1976, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Social Sciences under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), earning a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree. Goncharik joined the CPSU in 1964 and remained a member until 1991.

Party and Government Roles

Between 1961 and 1965, Goncharik worked as an economist and deputy chief accountant in the Lyuban district collective farm. From 1965 to 1973, he held party positions. In 1976-1982, he served as Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture of the Minsk Regional Committee of the CPSU and First Secretary of the Cherven District Committee of the Belarusian Communist Party (RCPB).

Higher Party Leadership

In 1982-1984, Goncharik served as Inspector and Deputy Head of the Organizational Department of the Central Committee of the CPSB. From 1984 to 1986, he held the post of Second Secretary of the CPSB for the Mogilev Region.

Political Involvement

From 1989 to 1991, Goncharik was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He also served as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Belarus from 1986 to 1996.

2001 Presidential Election

In 2001, Goncharik became the sole candidate from the opposition for the presidential elections in Belarus. He garnered 15.65% of the vote, losing to Aleksandr Lukashenko, who received 75.65% of the electorate's votes.

Honors and Awards

Goncharik received several awards, including the Order of Friendship of Peoples, the Medal "For Labor Valour," the Medal "For Valiant Labour," and the Medal "In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin."
