Early Life and Education

Vladimir Loboda was born on July 6, 1943, in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, to Anna Kvitka and self-taught artist Viktor Loboda. He studied painting at the Kyiv Art Institute from 1965 to 1968. In 1973, he graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Civil Engineering Institute with a degree in architecture.

Artistic Career

Loboda's artistic journey began in 1971 with his participation in the "Discussion Exhibition" in Dnipropetrovsk. This marked the beginning of his career as a dissident artist under the constant scrutiny of the authorities.

Underground Art in Ukraine

Working in Dnipropetrovsk, Loboda became a prominent figure in Ukraine's underground art scene during the late 1960s and early 1990s. In 1981, he moved to Lviv with his family.

The "Steppe" Society

In the late 1980s, Loboda established the "Steppe" art society in Dnipro. Together with his wife, he founded a museum and summer workshop on their farm in the village of Turovo in 1992.

Artistic Style

Loboda's early work exhibited a fascination with Ukrainian folk art, ancient cultures, and modernist trends. He experimented with different forms and artistic expressions, creating monumental objects, including stained glass, sculptures, and paintings.
