Biography of Vladimir Markaryants
Vladimir Surenovich Markaryants (Armenian: Վլադիմիր Սուրենի Մարկարյանց) was an Armenian Soviet political and party figure. He was born on August 19, 1934, in Yeysk and passed away in 2000 in Yerevan. Markaryants had a significant career in Soviet politics and the party.
Education
In 1964, Markaryants completed his distance education at the Rostov-on-Don Agricultural Machinery Technical School. He further pursued his education at the Higher Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union through distance learning in 1970. Additionally, in 1977, he attended the Stavropol Agricultural Institute through distance education.
Early Career
From 1953 to 1956, Markaryants served in the army before starting his professional career. In 1956, he began working at an armature association in Georgievsk, Stavropol Krai. He held various positions within the association, including lathe operator, Komsomol committee secretary, adjuster, head of the bureau, deputy head of the workshop, and secretary of the party committee.
Political Career
Markaryants' political career started in 1967 when he became the director of a glassware factory in Stavropol. He went on to become the chairman of the district executive committee in Stavropol in 1969, and the first secretary of the district party committee in 1970. In 1974, he became the chairman of the Stavropol City Executive Committee, and in 1976, he became the deputy chairman of the Stavropol Krai Executive Committee.
In 1982, Markaryants became the first secretary of the Stavropol City Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Three years later, in 1985, he became the secretary of the Stavropol Krai Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
In 1988, Markaryants was appointed as the deputy minister of the medical and microbiological industry of the USSR. From 1989 to 1990, he served as the chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR. Starting from September 1990, he became the first deputy minister of the medical industry of the USSR. In May 1991, he became the chairman of the board of the state corporation "Pharmindustry."
Markaryants was also a member of the Soviet Union's People's Deputies and a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from July 1990.
