Early Life and Football Career
Youth and Club CareerSerhiy Sharan began his football journey at the Burshtyn Youth Sport School with coach M. S. Sit and later joined the Lviv sports boarding school. He debuted for Karpaty Lviv in the second division at the age of 18. In 1991, he joined Dynamo Kyiv and made his debut in the top division. He established himself in the team following the departure of key players to foreign clubs.
International Career
Sharan gained attention from USSR youth team coaches from a young age. He won the European Under-18 Championship with the USSR youth team in Hungary in 1990 and earned a bronze medal with the USSR Under-20 team at the 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship in Portugal. He played only one match for the Ukrainian national team in 1995.
Coaching Career
Assistant and Youth CoachingAfter retiring as a player, Sharan transitioned into coaching. He served as assistant coach for FC Kryvbas and head coach of Kryvbas' youth team.
Head Coaching Appointments
Sharan was appointed head coach of FC Zvezda Kirovohrad in 2005 and FC Zakarpattya Uzhhorod in 2007. He later became head coach of FC Oleksandriya in 2010 and PFC Karpaty Lviv in 2012, but faced challenges and resigned due to poor results.
Return to Oleksandriya
In 2013, Sharan returned to FC Oleksandriya as head coach. Under his guidance, the team won promotion to the Ukrainian Premier League in 2015. They also achieved third place in the Ukrainian Premier League in 2018/19, reached the semi-finals of the Ukrainian Cup in 2015/16, and participated in the UEFA Europa League in 2016/17 and 2017/18.
