Vladimir Nikolaevich Slepkov: A Journalist and Political Figure

Early Life and Education

Born in Ryazan into a teacher's family, Vladimir Slepkov's father, Nikolai Vasilyevich, was a former peasant who later became a beekeeper.

Journalistic Career and Political Association

Slepkov worked as a journalist for the youth magazine "Yuny Proletary" and the Lenkino Combine. As a member of the VKP(b), he joined his elder brothers, Alexander and Vasily, in the "right opposition" group.

Repression and Imprisonment

In the wake of his brother Alexander's arrest in 1933, Vladimir was expelled from the VKP(b). Two years later, he was arrested and sentenced to four years of exile in the Omsk region. During his time in exile, he worked as a statistician.

Second Arrest and Execution

In 1936, Slepkov's case was reviewed, leading to a second arrest. Accused of counterrevolutionary propaganda and participation in a terrorist group, he was included in the "Stalinist execution list." On August 3, 1937, after a brief trial, he was sentenced to death and executed the same day.

Posthumous Rehabilitation

Slepkov was posthumously rehabilitated in 1957. His remains are interred in a mass grave at the Donskoye Cemetery in Moscow.

Family Repression

The Slepkov family faced severe repression. Alexander and Vasily were executed, while Anastasia was also shot. Only the younger sisters, Sofya and Zhenya, survived imprisonment and labor camps.
