Early Life and Education

In 1968, Vladimir Torchilin graduated from the Chemistry Department of Moscow University. From 1971 to 1973, he continued working there as a junior research assistant.

Scientific Career

Research at the Institute of Experimental Cardiology

In 1974, Torchilin joined the Institute of Experimental Cardiology at the All-Union Cardiological Scientific Center of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. Initially a senior research associate, he became head of the Laboratory of Enzyme Engineering in 1980.

Transition to the United States

In 1991, Torchilin moved to the United States. He held the roles of Head of the Chemistry Program at the Center for Molecular Imaging and Pharmaceutical Innovation at Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor at Harvard Medical School.

Subsequent Positions

- Distinguished Professor and Chair, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Northeastern University, Boston (until 2008)
