Biography of Vladimir Zografski

Vladimir Zografski is a Bulgarian ski jumper who was born into a sporting family. His father, Emil Zografski, was also a Bulgarian ski jumper and competed in the Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992. His younger brother, Martin, is an aspiring ski jumper as well. One of Zografski's mentors is Joachim Winterlich, the coach of renowned German athlete Jens Weißflog.

Early Career

Zografski made his first jumps in his hometown of Samokov, Bulgaria, which is the only city in the country with a ski jumping hill. His debut in ski jumping came at the Continental Cup in 2005 when he was just 12 years old. In 2007, he participated in the Junior World Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, where he finished in last place.

International Success

Zografski's first World Cup start occurred on December 14, 2008, in Pragelato, Italy, where he finished in 43rd place. In the same season, he competed in the World Championships in Liberec, Czech Republic, and achieved a 43rd place finish on the normal hill. In the winter of 2010/11, Zografski earned his first World Cup points in Engelberg, Switzerland, with 28th and 23rd place finishes. In February 2011, he won the Junior World Championships in Otepää, Estonia, surpassing Austria's Stefan Kraft and local athlete Kaarel Nurmsalu. At the 2011 World Championships in Oslo, he finished 34th on the normal hill and 37th on the large hill.

During the 2011/12 season, Zografski achieved his best result to date in the World Cup, finishing eighth in Lillehammer, Norway. In late February 2013, he competed in the World Championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy, finishing 40th on the normal hill and 31st on the large hill.

Olympic Participation

Zografski made his Olympic debut in 2014 at the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, where he finished 47th on the large hill. He also emerged as the winner of the 2015 Winter Universiade.
