Vladislav Helzin: A Journey in Politics and Football
Early Life and EducationVladislav Helzin was born and raised in Donetsk, Ukraine. He graduated from Donetsk National University with a degree in international economics and from Donetsk State Institute of Health, Physical Education, and Sports with a degree in Olympic and professional sports.
Political Career
Helzin is a member of the Party of Regions and a deputy in the Donetsk Regional Council. He serves on the Standing Commission on Youth Policy, Physical Education, and Sports. His business interests lie in the agricultural sector.
Football Career
Functional JourneyHelzin's football career began in 1999 as vice-president of FC Metalurh Donetsk. He played a key role in the team's ownership until transferring it to Sergey Taruta's Industrial Union of Donbas in 2001. In August 2001, he founded the Olympik Charitable Foundation in Donetsk and became its president. The foundation later formed the basis of FC Olympik. Helzin has served as the club's president since its inception.
Playing Career
Helzin started football training at the Stalvar football school under coaches Mikhail Kosevich and Igor Khodus. At the age of 14, he spent two weeks at FC Shakhtar Donetsk's academy before returning to his district team.
After appearing in one Ukrainian Cup match for Mashynobudivelnyk Druzhkovka in 2000, Helzin trained with Metalurh Donetsk while serving as vice-president. However, he never played a match for the team.
Helzin made his debut for Olympik in 2004 and scored his first goal in 2007. He holds multiple Ukrainian Premier League records as the oldest debutant and oldest goalscorer. At the age of 42 years and 253 days, he played his final match for Olympik in May 2016.
