Biography of Vladislav Opelyants

Vladislav Opelyants is a Russian cinematographer known for his collaborations with film directors Nikita Mikhalkov and Kirill Serebrennikov, as well as for his work in shooting commercials and music videos. He is a laureate and nominee of several Russian and international awards for his cinematography.

Early Life and Education

Vladislav Opelyants was born on January 7, 1968, in Moscow, Russia. He comes from a family of television operators, with his father working at "Ostankino," a major Russian television company. Opelyants graduated from the cinematography department of the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in 1992, studying under the guidance of renowned cinematographer V.I. Yusov.

Career

Opelyants began his career as a reporter-cinematographer at the Russian bureau for the Dutch channel RTL4. He later became a cinematographer and director of commercials for major global and Russian brands such as Nescafe, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, MTS, and Megafon. He has also extensively worked in the music video industry, shooting videos for artists such as Alla Pugacheva, Kristina Orbakaite, Zemfira, Mumiy Troll, Gosti iz Budushchego, Blestyashchie, Valery Meladze, Alsou, Chaif, and Uma2rmaH. In total, he has shot over 100 music videos and commercials.

In 1997, Opelyants made his debut in feature films as a cinematographer for the movie "Midlife Crisis" directed by Garik Sukachyov. He has since worked as a cinematographer and director of photography for films like Nikita Mikhalkov's "12," "Burnt by the Sun 2: Citadel," and "Sunstroke"; Renata Litvinova's "Goddess: How I Fell in Love"; and Philipp Yankovsky's "The State Counsellor," among others.

In 2015, Opelyants received the Golden Eagle Award for Best Cinematography for his work on the film "Sunstroke." In 2017, he won the Best Cinematography prize at the Kinotavr Film Festival for the film "Hostages" directed by Rezo Gigineishvili. In April 2019, Opelyants became a laureate of the White Square Award, which honors the best cinematographers.

Personal Life

Vladislav Opelyants was married to cinematographer Evgenia Opelyants from 2010 to 2015. In 2017, he married actress Maria Poezzhaeva. They have a son named Grigory, born in 2017.
