Biography of Vladislav Komar

Vladislav Komar was a Polish athlete and shot putter, born into a noble Polish family. His mother, Wanda Jasenska, was a member of the Polish national shot put team and held records in Poland. His father, also named Vladislav (Vladislavas Komaras), was a descendant of a Russian noble family and a member of the Lithuanian national high jump team. After his father's death, the family moved to Poland, where Vladislav spent several years in an orphanage.

Achievements

Vladislav Komar went on to become an Olympic champion at the 1972 Summer Olympics and was also a medalist at the European Championships in 1966 and 1971. He won the Polish national championship 14 times and set 16 Polish national records. In 1963, he held the record for the decathlon in Poland.

During the medal ceremony at the Olympics, Komar was seen crying. Many thought it was due to excitement, but he later revealed that he was thinking about his father.

Life after Sports

After retiring from his athletic career, Komar appeared in several films. However, his life was tragically cut short in a car accident along with Tadeusz Słusarski.
