Early Life and Education
V'yacheslav Horpyncuk was born on February 4, 1966, in the village of Tomakhiv, Ukraine. He attended school until 1982 and later pursued a degree in foreign languages from Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University, graduating in 1989.
Military Service and Professional Career
From 1984 to 1986, Horpyncuk served in the Soviet Army's 80th Airborne Assault Brigade. Subsequently, he worked as an English teacher and assistant principal at the Gorbachev Secondary School from 1989 to 1991. He then became a senior lecturer at Ternopil Academy of National Economy.
Ecclesiastical Ministry
In 1991, Horpyncuk became a member of the Ternopil congregation of the Ukrainian Lutheran Church (ULC). He was ordained as a pastor in 1999 after completing his studies at the Ukrainian Lutheran Theological Seminary of St. Sophia. At the ULC Synod in Kyiv in 2000, he was elected bishop.
Academic and Theological Contributions
Horpyncuk received a Doctor of Divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary in 2004. He has taught at the Ukrainian Lutheran Theological Seminary of St. Sophia and has served as the editor-in-chief of the ULC journal "Flag." Additionally, he is a member of the Ukrainian Bible Society and the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches.
Family and Personal Life
Horpyncuk is married to Anzhela Bohodanivna (née Solimchuk), and they have four children: Kateryna, Vladyslav, Yaroslav, and Svyatoslav. He also maintains a blog titled "Ukrainian Lutheranism," where he shares his thoughts on Lutheran theology and current events.
Awards and Recognition
Horpyncuk has received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to the church and society. These include the Order of Merit, 3rd Class (2003), the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 5th Class (2008), and the Honorary Diploma of the Kyiv City Council (2004).
