Early Life and Career

Vyacheslav Zagorodnyuk, a renowned Soviet and Ukrainian figure skater, first took to the ice at the tender age of five in Odessa. Under the guidance of esteemed coaching duo Galina Zmiyevskaya and Valentin Nikolayev, Zagorodnyuk honed his skills and rose through the ranks.

International Success

Zagorodnyuk's talent shone brightly on the international stage. In 1989, he captured the gold medal at the World Junior Championships. The following year, he earned a silver medal at the same event. His stellar performance continued with a bronze medal at the 1994 World Championships and a coveted European Championship title in 1996.

Zmiyevskaya's Influence

Galina Zmiyevskaya, Zagorodnyuk's coach, instilled in him a rigorous and refined classical style. Her meticulous attention to technical details, particularly in the execution of the intricate triple axel jump, set him apart on the ice.

Post-Competition Career

In 1998, Zagorodnyuk retired from amateur skating and embarked on a successful coaching career. He relocated to the United States with his coach and worked with renowned skaters, including five-time Ukrainian champion Vitaly Danilchenko and singles skater Alisa Kireeva. Zagorodnyuk's expertise was also showcased in various ice shows and television programs in the United States.

A Legacy on Ice

In 2006, Zagorodnyuk organized and produced the "Magic on Ice" show in Kyiv, bringing together legendary skaters like Oksana Baiul, Ilia Kulik, and Surya Bonali. In 2007, he established his own ice rink and skating club, "Stolytsa," in Kyiv, fostering a new generation of skaters.

Return to Ukraine

In 2011, Zagorodnyuk heeded the call of the Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation and returned to his homeland. He became a coach at the Kyiv Children's and Youth Sports School "Leader," where he continues to impart his invaluable knowledge and inspiration.

Personal Life

Vyacheslav Zagorodnyuk is married to former Ukrainian figure skater Olga Mudrak, who competed in ice dancing with Vitaly Baranov. They have two children, son Maksim and daughter Alina.
