Biography of Walter Mondale
Walter Mondale, a veteran of the American political scene and former Vice President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, was born on January 5, 1928, in Ceylon, Minnesota. He served in the United States Air Force before embarking on a successful political career.
Early Life and Education
Mondale received his higher education at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in political science. He then went on to attend the University of Minnesota Law School, where he obtained his law degree.
Political Career
Mondale entered politics in the early 1960s and quickly rose through the ranks of the Democratic Party. In 1964, he was elected Attorney General of Minnesota and served in that position until 1976. Mondale became known for his progressive policies and commitment to social justice.
In 1976, Mondale joined the presidential campaign of Jimmy Carter and was chosen to be his running mate. They were successful in their bid for the White House and Mondale became the 42nd Vice President of the United States. During his time in office, he played a key role in shaping Carter's domestic policy agenda.
After leaving the vice presidency in 1981, Mondale continued to be involved in politics and public service. He ran for president in 1984 but was unsuccessful in his bid against incumbent President Ronald Reagan.
