Early Career
In 2007, Zhang Yue and Wang Lei joined forces in pair skating. They quickly made their mark, earning bronze medals in two junior Grand Prix events in their debut season. At the Junior Grand Prix Final, they initially placed eighth but were later elevated to seventh due to a doping violation by the winning Russian team. They also debuted on the senior Grand Prix circuit, finishing fourth at their home competition, the Cup of China.
Junior Success
The 2008-2009 season saw Zhang and Wang qualify for the Junior Grand Prix Final, where they secured a silver medal. They also competed at two senior Grand Prix events, placing eighth at Skate America and fifth at the Cup of China.
Injury and Recovery
Zhang Yue's injury forced the pair to miss the 2011-2012 season. After their recovery, they would go on to achieve further success with a new partner.
