Early Life

Wayne Hemingway was born in 1961 in Morecambe. His early memories include his grandmother and mother dressing him up as Elvis, one of the Beatles, or Tarzan, and taking him back and forth along Morecambe Pier. He also remembers his father, professional wrestler Billy Two Rivers, carrying him on his shoulders around the ring. His career as a 'child model' influenced Wayne's worldview, as he became someone who couldn't imagine himself without experiments and mixing styles and cultures.

Education and Career

In 1979, Hemingway obtained a degree in geography and town planning from University College London. After this, he did something that had a significant impact on his future. Wayne was playing in a musical band at the time and wanted to raise some money for its promotion. While going through his wardrobe with his childhood friend (now his wife) Gerardine, he realized that he could sell some of his clothes at Camden Market. This sparked the idea that fashion could be a lucrative business, and the couple founded their own label, 'Red or Dead'.

'Red or Dead' gained international recognition when it won the title of 'Street Style Designer of the Year' three times in a row according to the British Fashion Council in 1996, 1997, and 1998. After 21 brilliant appearances at London Fashion Week, the 'Red or Dead' brand was sold by Wayne and Gerardine for a large sum of money. In 1999, the entrepreneurial couple established the company 'HemingwayDesign', specializing in accessible and social design.

Contributions and Achievements

In addition to their fashion endeavors, HemingwayDesign became involved in the grand housing project 'The Staiths South Bank' in Gateshead. The company played a crucial role in everything from master planning and architecture to landscape transformations and marketing. Wayne Hemingway also serves as the chairman of the organization 'Building for Life', which assesses the quality of designing new homes and residential areas in England.

He is a professor of anthropogenic environment at Northumbria University and holds a Doctorate in Design from the University of Wolverhampton. Hemingway writes for publications that cover architecture and housing issues and serves as a judge in various international design competitions. Since 2006, he has remained the editor-in-chief of the glossy magazine 'Sublime', the first long-standing international publication reflecting the style of beautiful and comfortable living.

Personal Life and Art

In November 2008, Wayne commissioned Manchester artist Adam Hayley to paint his portrait. The work was completed in July 2009 and exhibited at the 'Mooch Art Gallery' located in the Triangle shopping center.
