Early Life and Education
Rudolf Leuckart, a distinguished German zoologist, pursued his medical studies at the Universities of Göttingen and Berlin.
Academic Career
In 1857, Leuckart was appointed as an assistant professor, rising to the ranks of extraordinary professor in 1860 and ordinary professor of zoology in Göttingen in 1868.
Scientific Contributions
Leuckart's primary research interests lay in the anatomy and embryology of lower marine animals and mollusks. His comprehensive examination of cephalopods in the prominent publication "Bronn's Klassen und Ordnungen des Thierreichs" resulted in a significant monograph on this class of mollusks.
