Anton Lang: A German Writer and Historian
Early Life and BackgroundAnton Lang was born into a family of legal scholars. His father, Wilhelm Lang, served as a private lecturer and chief judge of the first instance, first in Tuttlingen (1831) and later in Reutlingen (1836).
Political Involvement
In 1866, Lang became a co-founder of the German Party. He actively promoted the party's ideals through his writings and published a book about it in 1891. Additionally, he contributed to the weekly Im Neuen Reich, established by Gustav Freytag in 1871.
Religious and Intellectual Pursuits
Influenced by the Tübingen School, Lang sought to elucidate the historical-critical method in theology developed by Christian Baur and David Friedrich Strauss to a broader audience. His interests also extended to Italian Renaissance literature and 19th-century Italian history.
