Bootsy Collins, born in Cincinnati, Ohio in October 1951, is an American musician and one of the pioneers of the "funk" genre in music. He has made appearances as both a guitarist and a vocalist, as well as a producer in projects with contemporary artists such as Fatboy Slim and Snoop Dogg. He has also dabbled in advertising, manages his own network of restaurants, and has even headed rock festivals.

The Birth of Funk

New musical genres often arise from quirks. There was a time when the bass guitar and drums played only supporting roles in music, with no one considering them for lead musical parts. However, a few musicians had the foresight to experiment with this, and the bass guitar eventually became the foundation of the "funk" style.
