Wim Bleijenberg: Life and Football Career
Early Life and Career with WageningenWim Bleijenberg, a renowned Dutch footballer and coach, began his journey in the sport with the Wageningen club. Born into a football-loving family, he developed his passion for the game from a young age.
Professional Career: Rigtersbleek, Ajax, and Beyond
In 1951, Wim made his professional debut for Rigtersbleek, where he made an immediate impact. His impressive 21 goals in his first season cemented his position as a promising striker. His talent caught the attention of Ajax Amsterdam, and in 1956, he joined the legendary club.
During his tenure with Ajax, Wim became one of their most prolific goalscorers. In the 1956/57 season, he netted 16 goals in 33 matches, earning him the title of top scorer. He repeated this feat in the 1958/59 season, scoring 15 goals in 18 matches.
However, Wim's time with Ajax came to an end in 1960. He moved to Blauw-Wit in 1961, but after one season, he returned to his former club, Rigtersbleek, which had by then become an amateur team.
International Career
Wim represented the Netherlands national team on three occasions. Despite his impressive club record, he failed to find the net in any of his international appearances.
Coaching Career and Legacy
Upon retiring from playing, Wim transitioned into coaching. He managed several amateur clubs, including AGOVV, where he spent a substantial period of time.
