Wim Gupffert: A Legendary Dutch Forward
Born into a family of artists in Amsterdam on October 18, 1894, Wim Gupffert would later become one of the most prolific strikers in Dutch football history.
Early Career
Gupffert's football journey began with RCA before he joined Blauw-Wit. In 1915, he made the switch to Ajax, a club that would shape his career.
Ajax Years
With Ajax, Gupffert helped the team regain promotion to the first division in 1917. He made his debut in the championship on September 23, 1917, against HVV. In his time with the club, he played 92 matches and scored 43 goals. He was their top scorer in the 1920/121 season, with 13 goals in 28 games.
International Career
Gupffert earned 3 caps for the Netherlands national team. His debut match was on June 9, 1919, against Sweden, where he scored a goal in a 3-1 victory.
Honors
During his career, Gupffert helped Ajax win the Dutch Championship twice, in 1918 and 1919.
Personal Life
After retiring from football, Gupffert worked as a sales representative. He married Altje Visser, the daughter of a boatswain, on July 8, 1920, in Amsterdam. Sadly, Wim Gupffert passed away on February 12, 1940, at the age of 45.
