Joan Enric Casimir Bartumeu Simeón
Early Life and EducationJoan Enric Casimir Bartumeu Simeón was born on October 30, 1979, in Escaldes-Engordany, Andorra. His father, Xavier Espot Miró, was a politician who held positions as Minister of Tourism and Sports and Minister of Foreign Affairs. His mother, Melania Zamora Bonet, managed a perfume company.
Simeón earned a law degree from ESADE Business School at Ramon Llull University in Barcelona and a philosophy degree from the same university. He also holds a master's degree in law and a bachelor's degree in humanities.
Legal and Administrative Career
Judicial CareerFrom 2004 to 2008, Simeon served as a judicial secretary for civil and juvenile cases. In late 2008, he became secretary of Andorra's Superior Council of Justice.
International Experience and Political Involvement
Between 2009 and 2011, Simeon practiced law in Toulouse and Barcelona. He also worked on juvenile cases in Andorra and served as a consultant to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2011 to 2012, he was deputy minister.
On July 25, 2012, Simeon was appointed Minister of Justice and Home Affairs, a position he held until 2016. From 2016 to 2019, he served as Minister of Justice, Social Affairs, and Home Affairs.
Prime Minister of Andorra
On February 28, 2019, Simeon resigned as minister to prepare his candidacy for prime minister in the 2019 parliamentary elections. On May 15, he was elected by 17 out of 28 members of the legislature. Simeon was sworn in as prime minister on May 16.
As prime minister, Simeon has prioritized negotiations for an association agreement with the European Union. In June 2019, he became president of the Democrats for Andorra political party.
Personal Life
Simeón is proficient in Catalan, English, Spanish, and French. He is unmarried.
