Biography of Yadviga Poplavskaya
Yadviga Poplavskaya is a Belarusian pop singer and a member of the first lineup of the ensemble "Verasy." She was born in Minsk on May 1, 1949. Poplavskaya graduated from the Belarusian Conservatory, specializing in piano and composition.
Early Career
In 1971, she was one of the founding members of the popular Minsk VIA "Verasy" in the 1970s. In the ensemble, she was involved in arranging, played the keyboards, and performed vocal parts. In 1973, Alexander Tikhonovich (bass guitar, vocals, trumpet) joined the ensemble and later became Poplavskaya's husband.
Later Career
In 1986, Poplavskaya and Tikhonovich were forced to part ways with "Verasy." In 1987, they joined the newly organized State Orchestra of Belarus under the direction of Mikhail Finberg. After winning the "Pesnya 88" competition with the song "Schastlivy Sluchai" (music by Eduard Hank, lyrics by Larisa Rubalskaya), Poplavskaya and Tikhonovich formed a duet with the same name. Later, the duet became a group called "Schastlivy Sluchai." Poplavskaya was involved in arranging, played the keyboards, and was a vocalist in the group.
The group "Schastlivy Sluchai" participated in the "Zolotaya Lira" festival in Belarus and toured in Russia, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Yugoslavia, Poland, Hungary, Finland, France, Canada, and Israel. In 1988, together with her husband, Poplavskaya organized the Yadviga Poplavskaya and Alexander Tikhonovich Song Theater. Through their studio, many young Belarusian performers, such as Alexander Solodukha and the band "Lapis Trubetskoy," emerged.
Poplavskaya was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Belarus in 1991.
