Biography of Yan Huayuan
Yan Huayuan, the owner of the construction company Country Garden Holdings, has been named not only the richest woman in China but also the richest woman in Asia. Born in 1981, Yan spent her childhood in China and later enrolled at Ohio State University, where she earned a degree in economics and management.
Early Involvement in Business
Upon reaching adulthood (21 years old by Chinese standards), Yan began actively showing interest in and directly participating in her father's business. In 2004, she inherited a controlling stake in her father's company, Yeung Kwok Keung, who had organized the construction firm Country Garden Holdings.
Origins of the Company
Her father, Yeung Kwok Keung, had earned his own wealth through hard work. He was a poor farmer in southern China who, in the early 1990s, stumbled upon small parcels of unused land in rural areas that were unclaimed by anyone. Taking advantage of his ownership rights, Yeung built inexpensive houses on the land, which were ideal for China's middle-class population.
Expansion and Success
With the proceeds from the sale of these houses, Yeung gradually invested in expanding his business. The construction of houses brought him considerable profits, eventually reaching $27 billion.
Involvement of Yan Huayuan
Shortly after graduating from Ohio State University and gaining management experience, Yan Huayuan joined her father in managing the construction business. In 2004, confident in her abilities, Yeung transferred the company's controlling stake to her.
Public Listing and Success
In 2006, Yan Huayuan registered the shares of Country Garden Holdings on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The initial public offering (IPO) immediately brought her over $5 billion. As a result, her net worth increased to $17 billion, propelling her to the top of the list of China's richest individuals, according to Forbes.

Yan Huayuan, known as the richest woman in China and Asia, is not content with her current success. She plans to further increase her wealth through investments in major projects.
