Early Life and Education

Yaroslav Zheleznyak was born on October 20, 1989, in Mariupol, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. In 2009, he pursued studies at the Institute of Law of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. He subsequently graduated from the Institute of International Relations at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2013, earning a Master's degree in International Business.

Professional Experience

From 2009 to 2014, Zheleznyak served as a Senior Government Affairs Advisor at Kesarev Consulting. He later held the position of Government Affairs Advisor at Anheuser-Busch InBev from 2014 to 2015.

Zheleznyak has also been involved in academia, teaching at the Kyiv School of Economics. He is the Head of the NGO "Agency for Innovative Democracy" and co-founded the PolitEyes project.

Political Career

In the 8th Verkhovna Rada, Zheleznyak was an assistant-consultant for Viktoriya Ptasznik, a member of the Samopomich party. Previously, he served in a similar role for Oleksiy Plotnikov, a member of the Party of Regions, in the 6th Verkhovna Rada.

From 2015, Zheleznyak worked as an Advisor on Government and Parliamentary Relations to Ukraine's Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Aivaras Abromavicius. In 2016, he became an Advisor within the Strategic Advisory Group for Supporting Reforms in Ukraine (SAGSUR).

In 2017, Zheleznyak was appointed as Advisor to the Prime Minister on Parliamentary Relations. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada as a member of the Holos party, where he is the Head of the Lawmaking Department.

Current Activities

Currently, Zheleznyak serves as Deputy Chairman of the Holos party parliamentary faction and First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Taxation, and Customs Policy. He is also a member of the Standing Delegation of the National Parliamentary Group to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Co-Chairman of the group for Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Japan and Australia.

In August 2022, Zheleznyak announced that the government was preparing a bill for an additional 10% tax on all imported goods and services, implemented as a 10% levy on foreign exchange transactions for the purchase of imports.
