Yolanda Barcina Angulo

Early Life and Education

Yolanda Barcina Angulo was born in Portugalete, Spain. At the age of 17, she moved to Navarre, where she studied pharmacology at the University of Navarre. In 1988, she became a lecturer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona before moving to the University of the Basque Country in 1990. There, she served as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy. In 1993, she became Head of the Department of Nutrition at the Public University of Navarre.

Political Career

Government Advisor

Barcina's political career began in 1996 when she was appointed Councilor for the Environment in the Government of Navarre, led by Miguel Sanz of the Navarrese People's Union (UPN).

Mayor of Pamplona

In 1999, she was elected Mayor of Pamplona, a position she held until 2011.

President of the Navarrese People's Union

In 2009, Barcina took over as President of the Navarrese People's Union, replacing Sanz.

President of Navarre

In the 2011 Parliament of Navarre elections, UPN emerged victorious, and Barcina became President of the autonomous community. She held this office until 2015.
