Yuri Cherkashin - Songwriter and Performer

Yuri Cherkashin is a poet, composer, and author of popular songs such as "Zhenshchina v belom" (The Woman in White) and "Listopad" (November). Born on April 3, 1961, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Cherkashin completed his musical studies at a guitar class in a music studio. Even before his military service, he sang in the professional band Charivni gitary.

Career

From 1986 to 1987, Cherkashin worked in the Tyumen Philharmonic in the groups Temp and Vizit. During this time, he wrote songs for the satirical performance "Vse, kak u lyudei" (Everything, Just Like People). From 1987 to 1989, he worked in the Tambov Philharmonic with the group Kurier and an estrada-circus group. Cherkashin participated in various television and radio programs, including "Do 16 i starshe" (Up to 16 and Older), "Novye imena" (New Names), "Dlya tekh, kto v puti" (For Those on the Road), and "S dobrym utrom" (Good Morning).

From 1990 to 1995, Cherkashin worked in the Kharkiv Philharmonic, where he organized the group Vokzal and became a laureate of the Song Vernissage-91 contest in the New Names category. With the group Kupal'skie chary, he traveled almost throughout the entire Soviet Union. He also spent several years living abroad and released his first poetry collection titled "U moego okna" (At My Window). Upon his return, he became passionate about author (bard) songs.

In 2003, Cherkashin's collection of poems titled "Na tom i etom beregu" (On This and That Shore) was released by the Kharkiv publishing house Prapor. He became a laureate of the Kharkiv festival of author songs "Vremya Vizbora" in 2005, as well as the Eschar festival. He became a permanent member of the Yuri Vizbor Song Poetry Club. During this time, his poetry collection "Ostrova vo Vselennoy" (Islands in the Universe) was published, and a music video for the song "Osen" (Autumn) was filmed.

Recent Work

In 2010, Cherkashin released a new collection of his author's songs titled "Vot ya priekhal" (Here I Arrived). He also released audio albums "Ey, poslushay, drug" (Hey, Listen, My Friend) in 2006, "Ya mechtayu o Parizhe" (I Dream of Paris) in 2008, "Liricheskiy al'bom" (Lyric Album) in 2009, and "Sbornik avtorskikh pesen" (Collection of Author's Songs) in 2010.
