Biography of Yuri Bushev

Yuri Yurievich Bushev was born on March 3, 1964, in Ufa, Russia. He began his business career in the early 1990s and quickly became involved in various commercial ventures. Bushev held leadership positions in several companies, including the auditing firm "Promfin-LTD," where he served as the CEO. He also worked as the financial director of "Slavneft" and the International Industrial Corporation.

Business Ventures

In 1997, Bushev founded and became the CEO of the joint-stock company "Bashneft-MPK." His business interests included oil resale, real estate operations, and legal services. However, Bushev gained a reputation for his aggressive business tactics and was often associated with raiding activities, the hostile takeovers of companies.

Attempted Assassination and Wife's Murder

In April 1998, an assassination attempt was made on Bushev in Moscow. Unknown assailants shot at him several times, injuring him in the arm and abdomen. Unfortunately, his neighbor, who happened to be nearby, was killed. The perpetrators and the masterminds behind the attack were never found.

In July 2001, Bushev's wife, Galina Perepelkina, a member of the City Notary Chamber and the head of a private notary office, was murdered in Moscow. At that time, Bushev was in a Ufa investigative isolation ward, where he had been detained a few weeks before his wife's murder, on charges of fraud. However, after Perepelkina's murder, the charges against him were dropped, and he was released. Some media outlets speculated that Bushev may have had a motive for the killing, as his wife was aware of his alleged fraudulent activities.

Conflict with Rusnerudprom

In May-August 2006, Bushev was involved in a conflict surrounding the company "Rusnerudprom," a leading Russian producer of flux limestone for the metallurgical industry. He was accused of attempting to illegally seize the company. The CEO of Rusnerudprom, Anatoly Skugarevsky, claimed that Bushev, using his connections in law enforcement agencies, orchestrated Skugarevsky's arrest and imprisonment on false charges. In an attempt to support this version, Skugarevsky's lawyer, Vladimir Sementsov, provided the Federal Security Service with a computer disk containing recorded conversations between Bushev and law enforcement officials who allegedly received money for prosecuting Skugarevsky. The charges against Skugarevsky were dropped in August 2006.

Additionally, in August 2006, the Investigative Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia announced the initiation of a criminal case regarding fraud involving the leadership of OAO "Bashneftekhim," in which Bushev was implicated. The case involved financial damage of $26.3 million to the Irish company Feyline, whose interests in Russia were represented by Bushev. At the time, the chairman of the board of directors of Bashneftekhim was Ural Rakhimov, the son of the president of Bashkortostan. According to reports, in June 1998, a contract for the supply of petroleum products was signed between Feyline and Bashneftekhim. Feyline transferred $177.3 million to Bashneftekhim, but the latter only supplied petroleum products worth $151.2 million before ceasing deliveries, resulting in a conflict between the two companies. Some media outlets linked Bushev's arrest in 2001 to the pressure exerted on him by the management of Bashneftekhim.

Arrest and Murder Charges

In January 2007, Bushev's former business partner in Bashkir oil operations, Igor Izmestyev, was arrested in Kyrgyzstan. Izmestyev, a former member of the Federation Council from Bashkortostan, was charged with organizing the murder of Perepelkina. According to law enforcement agencies, members of a criminal group led by Sergei Finagin, who was arrested in December 2006, carried out the murder. Most other members of the gang had been arrested in 2005-2006. The arrests followed an investigation into the incident involving the death of former submarine officer Alexander Pumane during interrogation in September 2004. The investigation concluded that Pumane was also a member of the criminal group.

Despite his controversial reputation and involvement in various legal disputes and criminal investigations, Yuri Bushev remains a notable figure in the Russian business world.
