Yuri Alekseyevich Yevdokimov: Governor of Murmansk Oblast
Yuri Alekseyevich Yevdokimov was born on January 1, 1946, in Klevan, Rivne Oblast. His childhood and adolescence were spent in Ukraine, in the city of Zaporizhzhia.
Early Career and Military Service
From 1963 to 1970, Yevdokimov worked at the Zaporizhzhia Electric Locomotive Repair Plant as an electrician, equipment repair technician, and assembly line foreman. He then served in the Soviet Army in East Germany.
Education and Leadership Roles
In 1970, Yevdokimov graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk Civil Engineering Institute (now National University of Architecture and Construction) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After military service, he worked as a senior engineer and foreman at the Zaporizhzhia Scientific Research Institute for Construction Production.
In 1974, Yevdokimov relocated to Murmansk Oblast at the invitation of the "Kovdorstroy" trust. He held positions as a mechanic, foreman, and senior foreman. From 1974 to 1984, he served as an instructor, head of the industrial and transport department, secretary, and second secretary of the Kirovsk City Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).
In 1984, Yevdokimov graduated from the Leningrad Higher Party School. He then became head of the construction department and secretary of the Murmansk Oblast Committee of the CPSU.
Political Leadership
From 1990 to 1994, Yevdokimov led the Murmansk Oblast Council of People's Deputies. From 1994 to 1996, he was the general director of the Murmansk branch of the "Sistema" Joint-Stock Financial Corporation.
In December 1996, Yevdokimov was elected head of the Murmansk Oblast administration, and in December 1997, he became governor of Murmansk Oblast.
