Educational Background
After completing his primary education, Jamali pursued his higher studies at Lawrence College. He went on to earn a Master's degree in History from Government College, Lahore.
Political Career
Jamali's political involvement began with the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in the 1970s. He was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan in 1977 and served as Minister for Food, Information, and Parliamentary Affairs in the Cabinet.
Contender for Prime Ministership
In 1985, Jamali emerged as a potential candidate for Prime Minister. However, General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq appointed Muhammad Khan Junejo as Prime Minister, while Jamali became Minister for Water and Power.
International Diplomacy
From 1975 to 2000, Jamali traveled extensively throughout Europe, the United States, Australia, Africa, the Far East, and the Middle East. He represented Pakistan at the United Nations sessions in 1980 and 1991.
Balochistan's First Prime Minister
Zafarullah Khan Jamali made history as the first Prime Minister of Pakistan from Balochistan province. He served from November 23, 2002, to June 26, 2004.
Passion for Hockey
Apart from politics, Jamali's other primary interest was hockey. He played on the national team and served as President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation for nearly two decades.
Family and Personal Life
Jamali was married and had four sons and a daughter. Two of his sons, Shah Nawaz Jamali and Javed Jamali, served in the military.
Resignation from Premiership
Jamali's tenure as Prime Minister was cut short when he resigned due to a conflict with President Pervez Musharraf on June 26, 2004. He served for a total of 581 days.
