Early Life and Education

Zaruhi Batoyan was born on September 29, 1979, in Yerevan, Armenia. She received her primary education at Yerevan High School No. 44, where she studied from 1987 to 1997. In 2002, she enrolled in the Faculty of Journalism at Yerevan State University, graduating in 2008.

Career in Social Work

Batoyan's passion for social activism began in 1999 when she joined the organization "Bridge of Hope." She served as the editor-in-chief of the children's magazine "Sunflower," advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities.

Leadership in Disability Advocacy

From 2013 to 2017, Batoyan chaired the "National Alliance for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities." She received the Universal Rights Award for "Inclusive Empowerment" in 2016. From 2014 to 2018, she led "Disability Info Armenia."

Political Career

Batoyan's political journey commenced in 2017 when she became a member of the Yerevan City Council. She was appointed Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in June 2018. On January 18, 2019, she became the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in Nikol Pashinyan's government.

Allegations of Corruption

In July 2020, the Corruption Prevention Commission fined Batoyan for inaccuracies in her income declaration. This led to her dismissal from her ministerial position on November 20, 2020.
