Georgian Football Legend

Giorgi Kinkladze, a skilled Georgian striker, marked his presence in the football world with an impressive career. His journey began in the youth ranks of his hometown club Zugdidi's DUSSH.

Rise to Prominence

At the age of 20, Kinkladze received a career-defining call from Moscow's Lokomotiv, led by coach Yuri Semin. He quickly established himself as a key player, helping Lokomotiv secure four Russian Cup titles and four bronze medals in the Russian Championship. His performances in European competitions were equally remarkable, with two UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final appearances.

Iconic Moment

In the 2000/2001 Russian Cup final against Anzhi, Kinkladze etched his name in Lokomotiv history. Facing a 0-1 deficit in the dying minutes, he netted a crucial equalizer, forcing the game into extra time. Lokomotiv eventually emerged victorious in a nail-biting penalty shootout (4-3).

Post-Lokomotiv Career

In 2001, Kinkladze left Lokomotiv to join Tbilisi Lokomotiv on loan. Subsequent stints included Kocaelispor in Turkey and Baltika Kaliningrad in the Russian First Division, before injuries forced him to retire in 2004.

Coaching and Club Ownership

After his playing days, Kinkladze briefly coached in Lokomotiv-Perovo's youth academy. In 2018, he made a significant investment by purchasing his hometown club, Zugdidi. Under his ownership, the club has regained its status in the Georgian top flight.
