Early Career and Arrival at Levski Sofia
Ze Soares began his professional career in Brazil, playing for several clubs including Palmeiras, Luverdense, São Bento, Atlético Sorocaba, and Clube Remo. In autumn 2007, he made the move to Bulgarian club Levski Sofia.
His debut for Levski came on 24 November 2007, in a 0-0 draw against Lokomotiv Sofia. He scored his first goal for the club on 22 March 2008, in a 4-0 victory over Belasitsa.
European Debuts and Success at Levski
In the 2007/08 season, Levski finished as runners-up to CSKA Sofia in the Bulgarian championship. On 13 August 2008, Ze Soares made his European debut in a Champions League qualifying match against BATE Borisov. Despite going through to the UEFA Cup, Levski faced another setback when they lost to Žilina.
However, the 2008/09 season brought success for Levski. They won the Bulgarian championship and the Bulgarian Supercup, defeating Litex Lovech 1-0.
Interest from Russia and Transfer to Metalurh Donetsk
In the summer of 2009, Russian club Rubin Kazan expressed interest in Ze Soares. However, his trial with the club along with other Levski players was unsuccessful.
In December 2009, it was reported that Ze Soares would join Metalurh Donetsk in January 2010. Despite initial setbacks in his medical examination, he eventually signed a 1+1 contract with the Ukrainian club.
Personal Life and Achievements
Ze Soares became the father of a daughter, Maria-Alice, on 16 January 2008. His girlfriend, Alini, gave birth in the city of Paulo Afonso.
