Timothy Linton: A Maverick in Marilyn Manson and Beyond
Early Life and Musical OriginsTimothy Linton, an American rock musician and songwriter, cut his teeth as a guitarist for the bands Life, Sex & Death. His musical journey took a significant turn in 1996 when he auditioned for Marilyn Manson, a band that would propel his career to new heights.
The Marilyn Manson Era
Amidst a pool of 150 hopefuls, Linton emerged as one of the 15 candidates selected for an audition to replace Marilyn Manson's former guitarist, Daisy Berkowitz. He subsequently joined the band for their "Dead to the World" tour in 1996-1997. His stage debut with Marilyn Manson occurred in New York City at the Irving Center.
Adopting the stage name Zim Zam, Linton became the first Marilyn Manson member whose moniker did not combine the names of sex symbols with those of serial killers. According to bassist Twiggy Ramirez, the alias originated from a "Dungeons & Dragons" character, while Manson claimed it referred to the Kabbalistic concept of tzimtzum.
Linton contributed to all but two songs on the 1998 Marilyn Manson album, "Mechanical Animals." However, his tenure with the band was cut short when he decided to pursue a solo career.
Post-Marilyn Manson and Current Projects
Linton's departure from Marilyn Manson preceded the start of the supporting tour for their self-titled album. His replacement, John 5, took his place. Since then, Linton has continued to make music with the bands Pleistoscene and The Pop Culture Suicides.
