Early Life and Education
A Georgian politician, Ada Marshania was born on July 1, 1961, in Sukhumi, Georgia, to Lorik Marshania, a prominent Soviet scientist and statesman. She spent her childhood in Sukhumi and attended secondary school there. After graduating, Marshania pursued her higher education at Leningrad State University, where she obtained a degree in law.
Political Career
Upon returning to Georgia, Marshania actively engaged in socio-political activities, participating in the national liberation movement that culminated in Georgia's declaration of independence in 1990 and the collapse of the USSR in 1991. Amidst the armed conflict in Abkhazia, she relocated to Tbilisi with her family.
Marshania served as a member of the State Council of Georgia from 1992 to 1995, and subsequently as a Member of Parliament from 1995 to 1999 and 1999 to 2004. In 2003, she actively participated in Georgia's parliamentary delegation to the OSCE, where she discussed potential solutions to the Abkhaz conflict.
Opposition Politics
Following the election of Mikheil Saakashvili's government, Marshania joined the opposition, becoming a member of the Labour Party of Georgia. She contested the 2008 elections on the party's electoral list and as a majoritarian candidate in Zugdidi. Subsequently, she left the Labour Party and joined David Tarkhan-Mouravi's "Resistance" movement, actively protesting against Saakashvili's policies.
Alliance of Patriots of Georgia
In December 2012, Marshania joined the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia, founded by Irma Inashvili and Tarkhan-Mouravi. She became the party's Political Secretary and played a pivotal role in its electoral success in the 2016 parliamentary elections, securing a seat as a member of its electoral list.
Royal Lineage
Ada Marshania descends from the Marshania dynasty, an ancient princely family of Abkhazia.
