Adem Ljajić: Serbian Winger
Early Career at PartizanAdem Ljajić began his football journey at FK Jošanica in Novi Pazar, Serbia. In 2005, his exceptional speed and dribbling skills caught the eye of Dušan Trbojević, the youth coach of Belgrade's Partizan. For the next three years, Ljajić honed his skills in various youth and reserve teams of Partizan. On July 29, 2008, he made his debut for the first team as a substitute in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match against Inter Baku.
Interest from Manchester United and Fiorentina
In 2008, Ljajić's impressive performances for Serbia's under-21 team attracted the attention of top European clubs. In October, it was reported that Manchester United was keen on acquiring the young talent. On January 2, 2009, United officially announced the signing of Ljajić and Zoran Tošić from Partizan. However, due to FIFA's ban on international transfers of underage players, Ljajić remained with Partizan until January 2010.
On December 3, 2009, the transfer deal was canceled as United's coaching staff believed their own youth players had greater potential. On January 13, 2010, Ljajić signed a five-year contract with ACF Fiorentina.
Controversies and Departure from Fiorentina
In April 2012, Ljajić had a falling out with Fiorentina manager Delio Rossi, which led to Rossi's dismissal. Ljajić received a heavy fine and a suspension until the end of the season. A month later, he refused to sing the Serbian national anthem in a friendly match, resulting in his exclusion from the national team by coach Sinisa Mihajlovic.
Transfers to Roma and Inter
On August 28, 2013, Ljajić joined AS Roma on a contract until June 30, 2017. He debuted for Roma on September 1, 2013, scoring a goal against Hellas Verona. On September 1, 2015, he was loaned to Inter Milan for one season.
Current Club Torino
In July 2016, Torino purchased Ljajić from Roma. However, he fell out of favor after a coaching change. In 2018, Russian club Spartak Moscow expressed interest in signing Ljajić, but a transfer could not be finalized.
