Early Life and Education
Adil Khan Ziyaethanov, an Azerbaijani statesman and political figure, was born into a noble family in the Elizavetpol Governorate. Descending from the Ganja khans of the Ziyad oglu clan, Ziyaethanov's family carried the surname Ziyaethanov in the Russian Empire.
Adil Khan received his primary education at the Elizavetpol Gymnasium and later graduated from the Faculty of Law at Moscow University in 1894.
Legal Career
After graduating, Ziyaethanov worked as a private attorney in Elizavetpol and Baku. He also served as the Chairman of the Elizavetpol City Council and its mayor.
Role in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic
Following the proclamation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) in 1918, Ziyaethanov became a Deputy Foreign Minister and held the position from May to October 1918. From October 1918 to December 1918, he served as the Acting Foreign Minister.
Diplomatic Mission to Persia
On August 1, 1919, Ziyaethanov was appointed as the diplomatic representative of the ADR to the Government of Persia. He played a key role in negotiations with Persia to strengthen relations between the two countries.
Later Life
After the fall of the ADR, Ziyaethanov remained in Iran with his family and held various administrative positions. In 1934, he relocated to Turkey.
Publications
Ziyaethanov was also an accomplished author. He published the book "Azerbaijan, Its History, Literature and Politics" in Baku in 1919.
