Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands

Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands reigned from 1890 to 1948, and after abdication, she held the title of Princess of the Netherlands. She was the only child of King Willem III from his second marriage to Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont. When she was born, her father was 63 years old, and she was deeply attached to him during her childhood. King Willem III had three sons from his first marriage, but by the time Wilhelmina was born, only one son, Alexander, remained alive. Unfortunately, Alexander passed away in 1884 when Wilhelmina was only four years old, making her the heir to the throne.

Reign and Regency

After her father's death, 10-year-old Wilhelmina ascended to the throne, with her mother Emma serving as regent until she came of age. Willem III was not only the king of the Netherlands but also the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. However, since the Luxembourg throne was passed down according to the Salic law, Wilhelmina inherited her father's title only in the Netherlands, while Luxembourg gained independence and Adolphe of Nassau became its Grand Duke.

Queen Wilhelmina Helena Pauline Maria of the Netherlands

Queen Wilhelmina Helena Pauline Maria ruled the Netherlands (counting from her coming of age) for fifty years, longer than any other Dutch monarch. During her reign, the First and Second World Wars took place, and the Netherlands lost its colonies.

Marriage and Child

Since 1901, Wilhelmina was married to Duke Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. They had one child together, their daughter Juliana.

Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands was born on August 31, 1880, in The Hague, Netherlands. She was the daughter of King Willem III and Queen Emma. Wilhelmina became the heir to the throne after the death of her half-brother Alexander in 1884. She ascended to the throne at the age of 10 after her father's passing in 1890, with her mother serving as regent until she turned 18.

During her reign, Queen Wilhelmina witnessed significant events, including the First and Second World Wars. The Netherlands faced several challenges during this period, including the loss of its colonies.

Wilhelmina married Duke Henry of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1901, and they had one child, their daughter Juliana, who later became the queen of the Netherlands. Queen Wilhelmina abdicated in favor of her daughter in 1948 and passed away on November 28, 1962, in Het Loo Palace, Netherlands. She is remembered as the longest-reigning monarch in Dutch history, as well as for her strong leadership during wartime.
