Biography of Ahmed Maher
Ahmed Maher, a renowned diplomat and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was born on September 14, 1935. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University and embarked on his diplomatic career in 1957 as an Attaché.
Early Career
Throughout his career, Maher served in various Egyptian embassies and consulates around the world. He worked in the Egyptian embassies in Kinshasa and Paris, as well as in the consulates in Switzerland, Portugal, and Belgium. He also led diplomatic missions for the Arab Republic of Egypt in Moscow and Washington.
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Ahmed Maher was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, succeeding Amr Moussa, the former Egyptian Ambassador to Washington who had become the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Sharm El-Sheikh in the presence of President Hosni Mubarak.
Contributions and Achievements
From 1971 to 1974, Maher served as an advisor to the head of the National Security Apparatus. He then led the Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt from 1978 to 1980. Maher played a crucial role in the peace negotiations at Camp David in 1978 and in Taba in 1988, representing his country at international forums.
