Biography of Alain Berset
Alain Berset is a Swiss politician and a member of the Social Democratic Party. He has been a member of the Swiss Federal Council and the Minister of Home Affairs since January 1, 2012. In 2017, he holds the position of Vice President of the country.
Education and Academic Achievements
Berset studied political science and economics at the University of Neuchâtel and the International Institute of Economics in Hamburg. In 1996, he obtained a master's degree in political science, and in 2005, he earned a PhD in economics. Throughout his academic career, Berset has authored several books and over 30 articles on issues related to economic development, migration, and regional development.
Political Career
Berset has been a member of the Council of States, the parliament of Switzerland, since 2003. He also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Social Democratic Party faction in parliament from 2006. From 2008 to 2009, he held the position of President of the Council of States. Additionally, Berset is a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
