Early Life and Education

Walter Augustinius was born into a German family in 1904. His passion for history, folklore, and ethnography led him to pursue studies at the universities of Rostock and Marburg. He obtained his PhD in 1937 and served as an assistant at the University of Rostock.

Nazi Affiliations

In 1931, Augustinius joined the Nazi Party (NSDAP). His involvement with the Nazi regime extended to membership in the Sturmabteilung (SA) and the National Socialist Students' Union. In 1933, he transferred to the Schutzstaffel (SS), where he rose to the rank of Untersturmführer.

Involvement with the Ahnenerbe

Augustinius's connections with the Ahnenerbe, a Nazi organization dedicated to the study of German ancestral heritage, date back to 1936. He initially served as a collaborator in the department of "German Scientific Talent." Later, he headed the Ahnenerbe's "Flanders" subsection, promoting Nazi ideology in Belgium.

Military Service

During World War II, Augustinius volunteered for service in the Waffen-SS in 1939.

Post-War Activities

After the war, Augustinius returned to Germany and worked as a teacher in Wuppertal. He remained active in promoting Nazi ideas, joining the European Museum for the History of Ancient Communities and establishing the German Unitary Religious Community (DUR). This organization has been criticized for its dissemination of Nazi propaganda.

Death

Walter Augustinius passed away in 1986, leaving behind a controversial legacy as an ethno-nationalist and Nazi sympathizer.
